Per 49CFR173.403, the transport index is defined as follows:" Transport index (TI) means the dimensionless number (rounded up to the next tenth) placed on the label of a package, to designate the degree of control to be exercised by the carrier during transportation. For a transportation package to be certified by the NRC, it must be shown by actual test or computer analysis to withstand a series of accident conditions.
