REVIEW ARTICLE Silver nanoparticles: the powerful nanoweapon against multidrug-resistant bacteria M.K. Rai, S.D. Deshmukh, A.P. Ingle and A.K. Gade Department of Biotechnology, Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Amravati, Maharashtra, India Introduction Resistance in human pathogens is a big challenge in fields like pharmaceutical and biomedicine. However, the inhibitory effect of 1.6–6.6 nM of Ag NPs is nearly the same (~ 55% relative to control). It was observed that silver nanoparticle is most effective against E. coli and has a mild inhibitory effect on S. aureus. However, gold nanoparticles of the same concentration were ineffective against these microbes, although it also belongs to the same group of elements. The aim of this review is to describe studies in which silver nanoparticles were synthesized using fungi as reducing agents, discussing the mechanisms and optimization of the synthesis, as well as the applications. The bio-molecules from various plant components and microbial species have been used as potential agents for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). In spite of a wide range of bio-molecules assisting in the process, synthesizing stable and widely applicable AgNPs by many researchers still poses a considerable challenge to the researchers. A Review on Metallic Silver Nanoparticles Bekkeri swathy Palamuru University ABSTRACT:Nanotechnology refers to the branch of science and engineering dedicated to materials, having dimensions in the order of 100th of nm or less. The term being new, but has been widely used for the development of more efficient technology. The paper also provides a review of scientific literature with regard to recent developments in the field of toxicity of silver nanoparticles and its effect on environment and human health These databases were collected up to 30 September, 2012 from 'ISI Web of Science' using the keyword 'silver nanoparticle'. It was found that there are a total of 18825 records. During the 10 years from 2001 to 2011, the number of published papers has grown by nearly 93% (from 247 articles by 2001 to 3603 articles by 2011).
